Ageing Well: As a Family Carer

This is a free short workshop for carers of people with learning disabilities exploring legislation that allows you to consider your own health and well-being. We will be exploring 3 pieces of legislation and discussing how they affect you as carers:

  1. Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014- We will discuss what rights carers have under this new act in Wales and what it means for them. Within this we will explore how people can use direct payments and give examples of good practice from across Wales.
  2. Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015- Looking at the 7 goals within this act, we will explain how your well-being is also important as it is for the person they care for.
  3. Dementia Action Plan- We will introduce you to this new strategy and how it affects you. We will explore the link between dementia and learning disability and discuss with you where you can go to for further information and support.

It is really important for you to consider yourselves within your caring role- if your own health and well-being isn’t being focused on this can often hinder you in their care duties. As the population in Wales is ageing, it is important for you as carers to be aware of what support is out there and help you can receive.
